The Power Of Praising God

TOPIC : The Power In Praising God
TEXT: John 6:4-13

In this passage the power of God was shown when Jesus fed thousands of people with 5 barley loaves and 2 fishes. As we all know this story, i want us to look at a particular verse in the passage. John 6:11 "Jesus then took the loaves, and when and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted" RSV. This is the power in praising God, Jesus only praised God and something extraordinary occurred. Also in John 11 : 41-44, after praising God in thanks He commanded Lazarus to come out of the tomb. This implies that when we are praising God with pure heart, He will do our heart desires. God already knows what we want and He will do them only if we keep praising him in spirit and truth. Brethren, what is it that you want God to do in your life, I am assuring you that He will definitely answer you by doing them. Start praising Him no matter the situation, and at last your mouth will be filled with songs of victory. HAPPY SUNDAY

PRAYER POINT: Lord, because of your only begotten son, Jesus Christ, let your songs of praise continue to sound in my mouth.

Genetic variation in fishes

As for all sexually producing organisms, ones that had passed on, present ones and the ones that are to come are all different i.e including fishes. The uniqueness of each individual within a specie is the consequence of two factors:
1) Deoxyribose nucleic acid (DNA)
2) Sexual reproduction
These two factors produce and maintain the genetic diversity within a specie.
DNA consist of chains of nucleotide monomers and each nucleotide contains a deoxyribose sugar, a nitrogenous base and a phosphate group. The base may be a purine base (Adenine,A, and Guanine,G) or a pyrimidine base (Cytosine,C, and Thymine,T) in which A can only pair with T and C with G. A complete DNA molecule consists of two polynucleotide chains, or strands, wrapped around each other in the form of a double helix. This double strand contain the template(non-coding) strand and non-template(coding) strand. The non-template strand is transcribed  to RNA (i.e copying the template strand) with the help of RNA polymerase so as to be able to express a gene. The single nucleotide strand formed, which contain ribose sugar and uracil(U) in place of thymine(T), is then translated to chains of amino acids which codes for a particular protein. There are 4^3=64 possible combinations of the four bases into a triplet code, and it is these 64 triplet codons which define the 20amino acids. The ‘words’ of the code consist of three bases using the symbol U for uracil, C for cytosine, A for adenine and G for guanine. Two or more codons may code for the same protein while it may be only one for some others like tryphtophan and methionine. AUG (methionine) signals start of a protein synthesis though it may later be removed in some gene expression. Three codons (UAA, UAG and UGA) do not encode amino acids but act as signals for protein synthesis to stop and are  called termination codons or stop codons.

Fish muscle and how it works

    The muscle of a fish is the organ used for locomotion. This part is divided into segmented blocks which contain two proteins, actin and myosin. Both are separated by connective tissue and their movement on each other helps the fish to move. The connective tissue runs from the muscle block around the fibre and are attached to bones and cartillage of the fish, this control the manner of swimming.

What happens to the fish muscle after death?
Fish requires ATP gotten from food for their energy requirement. After death, energy supply stops and enzymes start to attack the muscle leading to discolouration, off-flavour due to oxidation of enzymes, easy breakage etc.

"Rigor mortis" what is it about?
This is the stiffening of fish muscle brought about by post mortem biochemical processes. As soon as fish dies, the muscles are limp and can easily be flexed. The fish is said to be in pre-rigor and of excellent quality, such muscle can contract if stimulated by an electric shock. Fish is said to be in rigor when the muscles start to harden and become stiff and cannot contract if stimulated.

What are the factors that determine extent of rigor?
1) Freshness of the fish: The fresher the better
2) Nature of the flesh
3) Nutritional state of fish: The higher the glycogen content, the higher the lactic acid(acidity) content which is corresponding to extent of rigor.
4) Method of catch: Use of passive gear should be avoided
5) Degree of handling: Fishes should be handled properly

How does temperature affect rigor?
Microbial activities is readily minimized by reducing or increasing the temperature to a level that is non favourable for their survival. Temperature below 0 degrees and above 85 degrees will stop almost all microbial activity in fish muscle after death thereby increasing the extent of rigor.

How does pH affect rigor?
At lower pH i.e high acidity, extent of rigor is prolonged. As glycogen content breaks down to lactic acid there will be reduction in pH i.e increase in acidity.

How does salt affect rigor?
Many bacteria needs water to function and as salt is hypertonic it draws out water from the cell wall of  bacteria. This leads to dehydration in its cell wall leading to prolonged rigor in fish muscle.
Take note of all this for better fish product!!!!

UNCOMMON FAVOUR

TOPIC: Uncommon favour
TEXT: ll SAMUEL 6:1-23

     In this passage God's favour was shown to a man called obededom. There were 3 main happenings in this passage.
i) Uzzah was killed due to an irreverent act against the ark of God which serves as the presence of God (6:7).
ii) Michal despised king david while he was rejoicing in the presence of the ark of God(6:16). This led to her barrenness for the rest of her life(6:23).
iii) Obededom was blessed by God for bearing the ark of God in his house.
      After incidence (i) king david feared for the ark to be kept with him so he decided to keep it with a poor and hopeless man called obededom. For this reason, God located him and blessed him abundantly that everyone were surprised. This is what we call "UNCOMMON FAVOUR". Have you ever witnessed a car accident in which all lost their lives except for only one person, this is "UNCOMMON FAVOUR". It is not too late for you to have yours, God is willing to do yours this year before it ends. Why don't you call on him today for this is your week of uncommon favour, all He requires from you is to do His will and forsake sins.

EPL MATCHES PREVIEW

The matches to be played this weekend are previewed so as to give insite of what to expect from your team. The most unbelievable happening of the week occurred on thursday with the sacking of jose mourinho. Lets hope it is a great weekend for EPL top teams.

CHELSEA vs SUNDERLAND
The fake and real bottom table teams are set for a show down. Whether the manager of the blues being sacked would have a positive effect is yet to be known as they have endured a poor start to the new football league season. Both teams have suffered two straight losses but one is favourite to take the 3 points here.

EVERTON vs LEICESTER CITY
League leaders Leicester city face a difficult test against the toffees after a high flying win over current champions on monday night. Highest goal scorer vardy(Leicester) is ready to add to his goal margin after a bright start to the season. Everton after a one all draw against Norwich last week are hoping to get all 3 points at home soil

MAN UTD vs NORWICH CITY
At the Old trafford stadium it would be man utd up against Norwich city. After an impressive draw at home to Everton last time out, they are confident of upsetting the red devils once more after their defeat to Bournemouth last weekend. Van gaal's position as man utd manager may be at stake with another defeat to lower team.

Tottenham are backed with an away win to Southampton, Stoke city to prevent a defeat to Crystal palace, West brom backed with a win to Bournemouth, Aston villa to come out of their poor performance,a great game for klopp's Liverpool away to Watford, and Swansea as well to prevent a defeat. Match of the week "man city vs arsenal will be previewed before the match.
